Steve Jones gave a brief Welcome and Thank you to all that attended the meeting

FOUNDERS PARTICPIATION UPDATE (Bob Goossens)

  • Commitment, Responsibility and Involment
  • Expressed a disappointment in the founding members participation
  • Need to search for energized founders that want to grow and commit time and energy into the School.
  • Need to focus on the Visions and Goals of the School.
  • Each Member in attendance gave their views and aspiration of the future of their company.

Volkmar: Since 1972 wants to know why the technology from across the ocean has not spread to this country. Seems the focus is on Pretty Pavers not Working Pavers. Wants Permeable Pavers for the future in large masses that work. His business is steady.
AL: Agrees with Volkmar on the future, however is business has not had much growth and his dropped some in 2005.
BRIAN: Business is growing Permeable Paving industrial and commercial.
FRED: 10 % growth in revenue most of his work is with the Universities, once completed does not see much growth.
KEITH:
Business down about 10% most likely due to mobilization, looking to grow.
BILL: Down 30% no residential, just commercial. Feels bad quality in the past has made the Paver industry hard to grow and prosper.
ANDREW: 10% Growth things are changing on home construction 10-20% using Pavers.

  • Bob discussed what States require permits for jobs, varies from State to State not all uniform.
  • Discussion from Steve that some still do not grasp the hands on concept of the training. He is working on improving and educating the concept of small classes and hands on training to the disbelievers.
  • Expressed that we find a Nitch in the Market.(Fred Adams)
  • Participation is declining how to raise it.
  • School has now been created under the category LLC for profit.
  • School has now created a class for Sales (Foundation Skills) not mixing Foreman and Sales.
  • First class being held on January 24,2007 has enrolled 18 students
Need to create Founders Committee that is Stable, Financial Commitment and advisory board for the Future of the School.
  • The responsibility of the Founders is to respect the views of the Schools Founders and Contribute toward Curriculums for the future.
  • Main objective is not to conflict with ICPI but focus on acceptance and develop a nitch for training in hopes of working together in the future Volkmar: 1. What Expectations did we come up with? 2. What are we here for? 3. Set ground rules, a nitch that works for Profit potential. 4. Is Education Human learning knowledge and development of skills.(Skills is hands and knowledge is information (ICPI). 1. We need a mission statement with the impact of skills leaving ICPI relationship intact. Mark: We have two different objectives Knowledge & Skills hoping that both will create a snowball affect for the future in the industry.
  • Founders need a clear picture of time and financial growth of the school(Steve is gathering that information)
  • We have 12 active Founders, need to increase this amount up to 20(all agreed)
  • Each member will try recruiting new Founders with commitment and enthusiasm. Bench mark $5000.00 contributions
  • Sponsorships have three levels please contact for information
  • Magazine advertising, Faxes and email communication has been sent out with Invitations to Dealers, Manufactures and Contractors. Along with Counter displays and brochures on the School to over 500 manufacturers and dealers.

Discussion on the floor Founders Objectives:

Volkmar: Directly connect to PAVE TECH to ease school expenses. Important the tools provided are PAVE TECH it shows the ease of the job and the proper use of them. Up to 24 Founders when other Founders can not attend we still will have a strong showing of support. Name value, Think profit, Hands-on School highly selective group
Fred: Agreed to a minimum amount of Founders
AL: Agreed more Founders
Steve: How do we except these Founders?
Bob: Go for advice and knowledge
Steve: Do we vote on who would be eligible?
Bob: Vote is not a good thing we do not want to exclude anyone!
Andrew: Agreed and try to combine meetings with other conferences.
Bob: We need to grow this Founders Body
Brian: Agreed concerned about getting to big. (All agreed to keep to no larger than 20)
Keith: Agreed
Fred: Agreed we are an exclusive group use this as a thinking tank for what to teach and succeed.
Bill: We need more commitment to move this industry along.
Volkmar: Manufactures lay pavers no question up to us to education then about the product.
Bob: We want Paver installers not landscapers. The cost of the school is more than first expected so the push to contribute thru new Founders, and Sponsorships.
Steve: One expense is WebEx of $6000.00 for 7 months. Was discussed and agreed that this service be discontinued and replaced with conference calls in the future upon expiration.

Teleconference Meeting for Founders:
March 23, 2006 at 1:00PM CST details to follow.

Volkmar: My thought is that the Founders could contribute more that $5000.00 and have shares and voting rights based upon the amount of contributions.
Andrew: We pay because we are committed and we need the involvement not just revenue.
Bob: Put out a question on class codes for Workman Comp., ICPI dropped the ball on this. Bob fought his class and won. Passed around information on this please contact Bob for information.

Grand Opening:

Steve: Wish more could have attended, we had guest speakers, food, dancing, and FUN! All who attended had a tour of the facility and impressed with what has been accomplished.
Bill: The facility was well received by all and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Steve: Joe Bowen spoke with praise on Steve’s commitment to the school and encouraged Sponsorships.

Sponsorships:

Steve: Interlock Society Member, Paver Patron, and Base Sponsor three categories designed to sponsor the school. Visit the Web Page for information of the Companies and there involvement with the School. A new brochure has been designed with the Founders and Sponsors for distribution. Need the Founders to help distribute this information. Contact Joyce for information the sheets. Steve has invited Mr. Brown and Mr. Jurik to the class for Foundation Skills in January. This may help remove some of the fears of the class, waiting for a response.
Bob: Steve have you asked the question as to why they do not like what you are doing?
Steve: Some are personality issues that carry over to the school, others express a fear of stealing the thunder from the ICPI as far as revenue.

Lead Instructor introduction, report and presentation( Mark Skiba)

Mark gave a power point presentation of the Facility, the first class review, improvements and modifications after the first class. Mark spoke on the Team Teaching and Foundation Skills class and its curriculum.
Bill: At the Grand Opening discussed the importance to have a school to train Sales. Reluctantly received by Steve however with great consideration Steve conceded to the idea and created the Foundation Skills class for the Sales force. Bill has agreed to instruct the art of selling jobs by the man hour vs. square foot. This knowledge needs to be shared for profit of any company.

School Administrator Introduction and report (Joyce Johnson)

Joyce gave a brief description of her role in the School functions and responsibilities. The data base that is being worked on now stands at 5000 from a number of States. The electronic faxes are to Contractors, Dealers and Manufactures. School interests are around 200. Invitation to the classes e-mailed prior to the classes.

Steve Berry: Conveyed his support of the school and Steve and how ICPI is turning things around for contractors.

Future Curriculum Development (Mark Skiba)

Discussion on future courses to be offered in the future.
Mark: What do you feel need to be address for future classes?
Bob: Expressed a need for Permeable Systems class be added
Bill: For environmental purpose for the wave of the Future with new laws going into affect.
Steve: Suggested that Steps, Landings and elevations be added.
Volkmar: Brought up the Pretty pavers at present these are the needs of the industry even though we agree this is not the direction we want to head for. Skills are needed for this market. Thought of maybe incorporating this in a class vs. dedicating one whole course for this. Was agreed by all the importance of a Permeable Paving Systems Course be added to the next phase with proper tools and techniques as to stay ahead of the market. The next phase of construction will be the parking lot to accommodate this class. No set date for these classes target is summer of 2007.
Steve: Would like to send Mark Skiba for training on Steps, Landings and elevations and future training classes for upcoming curriculums. All agreed for the need of education and skills to teach the class. Class ended with a photo of the Founders.
Steve: My goal, as far out there that it may seem, Is to have ICPI and the School work together and promote each other. Share vocational trainers, and set a benchmark for the Industry with hands on training of skills and knowledge
