I am excited to say that with the Grand Opening in sight, the finishing touches on the new School for Advanced Segmental Paving building addition is coming to a close. The attached 40’ x 80’ indoor training arena is in the process of getting filled and compacted, the last of the doors painted, and the electrical tested and completed.
From the desk side of the school preparation, earlier this week, Steve Jones and I hosted the first of many web video teleconferences. Many of you were there with several beneficial suggestions that sprung from that meeting. Although, I feel the most important was to review what you the founders had agreed upon as the objectives for the School for Advanced Segmental Paving first course of instruction. They are as follows:
1) For attendees to improve their ability to communicate the principles, methods, techniques and reasoning involved in the segmental paving system.
2) For attendees to increase their understanding of the foreman’s role and how to increase crew efficiency.
Both of which are to be accomplished with the following methodology:
A. Each student will present a section of the installation system to the class, who will be
evaluating their presentation. Learning is reinforced through continuous participation of
the attendees.
B. Weave the principles of continuous improvement, cutting edge techniques and tools,
efficiency and pride throughout.
Some of the other great suggestions that will be incorporated into the course curriculum will be to:
• Refine the time line
• Instruct with the idea of an optimum crew size
• Check for proper technique and application of tools and equipment throughout the course
• Additional items to be including in the final course evaluation.
• Review of the on-line registration process with regards to adequately assigning portions of the class to be taught.
These and several other suggestions are being added as we head down the final stretch.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank Deta Halilovic for her help with the website preparations including the registration process and creating the certificate to be awarded upon class completion.
(It looks Great!)
